A birthday party is a time to celebrate the year that you had and the one that’s coming. Why not celebrate it like you’re five or six years old?! The idea of throwing the same kind of party that we had when we were young is becoming a very popular trend. Goofy hats, noisemakers, bright colored cakes and all! In this post I want to share some ideas for how to do this, and do it well.
The key to a retro birthday party is simple fun. You party like you’re still young, even if the party turns more “grown-up” as the evening progresses. This means doing fun things like laser tag, going to the zoo, playing games, and eating cake. As adults, our birthday parties tend to be nothing more than dinner and drinks with a few friends. Instead, start this party early in the day and do something really fun.
Themed cakes were cool when we were kids, and they still are. You can find many of the retro pans online for ridiculously cheap prices. It doesn’t take much skill to decorate these, and you might even have a good time doing it. You can find a Ninja Turtle cake pan or a Mario cake pan online for way less than you would pay to have the same cake from the same bakery you did last year!
If you want to take the themed idea even further, you can go as far as to have party favors and goofy hats as well. This would be the perfect way to have the same kind of silly fun that you had when you were a kid.
Grown up life doesn’t have to be all work and business. It’s a lot of fun to cut loose and play like we’re still kids. Make your birthday party the time when you get to do this, and get your friends to do it too so you don’t look like the only one on the dance floor!
